Schedule Your Meeting

Be prepared to offer some potential meeting times when you contact the hiring manager. Instead of saying, "My calendar is wide open," which can make you sound desperate, offer two or three times that will work for you, as in, "Tuesday or Thursday afternoon between 2 and 4 are open for me." If those times don't work for the hiring manager, ask her to suggest a few possibilities.

Companies hire people, not resumes. At some point, it's important to connect personally with hiring managers. Making a follow-up phone call or sending an e-mail allows the hiring manager to begin knowing you as an individual. Plus, following up with hiring managers builds your courage muscles, one small call at a time!
